Video: Odd Future - Rella

Whenever I watch an Odd Future video I have to watch it twice through in succession. The first time for the visuals, the second time for the actual song, such is the OFWGKTA fashion to have visuals that require all of your attention.

Odd Future debuted 'Rella' last night, and it is the first single to come off of their upcoming album, The Odd Future Tape Vol. 2. This album is just the first of many projects set to be released by the OF crew in 2012. The Odd Future Tape Vol. 2 is slated for release on 20th March, which will be swiftly follwed by the airing of Odd Future's own television show, Loiter Squad, on 25th March. A solo album from Tyler, The Creator, called Wolf, which is the follow up to his debut studio album Goblin, and a second MellowHype studio album, entitled Numbers, are also expected in the first half of this year. OFWGKTA definitely divide opinion but they look to be around for the long-haul. Also, we are all waiting anxiously as to what Earl Sweatshirt's next move is.

Anyway, back to 'Rella'. Hodgy Beats is up first and he completely kills the track. I've always maintained that, aside from Earl, Hodgy is the most talented rapper in the OF ranks, and he shows this on 'Rella'. A brilliant opening verse is then followed by a mediocre showing from Domo Genesis. Admittedly, as he progresses through the track he definitely gets better, but, come on, opening with "suicide watch, nigga ... kill yourself", just no, Domo. Wiz Khalifa potentially has some upcoming collaborations with Domo, so we'll see how he fares when up there with the big boys. Then we come to Tyler. The ringleader of the group, so to speak. Recently he has talked about wanting to be remembered as one of the best video directors of all time, along with Spike Jonze and Hype Williams. While Tyler has directed a brilliant video in 'Rella', I can't help but wish he would put as much effort into wanting to be a great rapper. While he's not the most technically gifted rapper, there is just something undeniably great about the way he spits his bars, and I personally cannot wait to get my hands on Wolf.
